DepEd discusses ways to aid schools affected by calamities

In Manila, Philippines, Education Secretary Sonny Angara led the 51st Executive Committee (ExeCom) meeting of the Department of Education to discuss critical issues requiring immediate action, particularly those affecting schools impacted by recent calamities.

“We presided over the 51st ExeCom meeting to discuss the critical issue that needed immediate action, especially concerns relating to the recent calamities,” Angara said on his Facebook page. He added that among the topics was the DepEd's comprehensive approach to assist areas hit by typhoons and earthquakes. Discussions also included updates on the department's temporary learning spaces.

“In this spirit, we again reiterated our instructions to our undersecretaries and assistant secretaries to coordinate well with their respective regions and extend any help that we could give,” Angara said.

The meeting addressed the roll-out of a digital information platform called the STRIDE System to provide more comprehensive insights into school buildings. It also examined the performance and concerns of DepEd Region IV-B to accelerate support and oversight, as well as the status of infrastructure and procurement to ensure the efficient and transparent use of government funds.
