Disney confirms symbiote character debut in Spidey series

Disney has announced that Symbie, a new symbiote character from Marvel Comics, will appear in an upcoming episode of the animated series Spidey and His Amazing Friends. This introduction brings a playful twist to the Venom symbiote for young audiences. The show, popular among preschoolers, continues to expand its roster with Season 5 underway and Season 6 confirmed.

The animated series Marvel's Spidey and His Amazing Friends centers on the adventures of Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, and Miles Morales, who team up with other superheroes to overcome villains while emphasizing the value of teamwork. Aimed at children aged 2 to 5, it ranks as a leading streaming program in its category and places among the top five global preschool toy licenses by sales.

Disney Jr. has revealed that Symbie, a relatively recent addition to Marvel Comics, will make his official animated debut in an unspecified episode. First introduced in Timeslide #1 in 2024 and fully appearing in Amazing Spider-Man #11 last September, Symbie is an alien creature experimented on by Professor Xanto Starblood. Freed by Peter Parker, it bonds with him but, unlike typical symbiotes, does not need a host to survive.

Executive producer Harrison Wilcox describes Symbie as "just a little scamp, a shapeshifter [who] just likes to run around and cause trouble." This lighthearted portrayal aims to engage younger viewers with elements of the Marvel Universe soon after the character's comic origins.

Although not part of the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe, the series aligns with overarching plans through regular communication with Marvel leadership to avoid conflicts. Produced by Disney Jr. and Marvel Studios in collaboration with Atomic Cartoons, the show features executive producers Harrison Wilcox, Bart Jennett, and Chris Moreno, with Becca Topol as producer and story editor, and Steve Grover as supervising producer.

The regular voice cast includes Alkaio Thiele as Peter Parker, Audrey Bennett as Gwen Stacy, and Carter Young as Miles Morales. Notable guests have included John Stamos as Tony Stark, Bindi Irwin as Isla Coralton, and Kylie Cantrall as White Tiger.

With Season 5 in progress and Season 6 on the horizon, this development highlights the series' role in nurturing early interest in Marvel characters.
