Egypt Ministry and Coca-Cola discuss drainage water project

Egypt's Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation met with Coca-Cola representatives to explore a project treating agricultural drainage water with renewable energy for irrigation.

Water Resources Minister Hani Sewilam held discussions with Coca-Cola officials on the proposed initiative. The project aims to treat moderately saline drainage water using renewable energy and turn it into irrigation supplies without additional Nile River withdrawals.

The talks align with Egypt's Water Resources Strategy 2050 and the company's Replenish 2.0 programme. Studies with partners including the United Nations Development Programme have confirmed the project's technical and economic viability.

Sewilam noted that the effort supports broader goals of water reuse and climate resilience for agriculture. Coca-Cola representatives expressed interest in continuing talks on financing and implementation.
