Egypt's foreign minister stated that recognising Somaliland would violate Somalia's unity and sovereignty during a phone call with his Somali counterpart on Saturday.
Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, affirmed Egypt's complete rejection of any measures compromising Somali territorial integrity. The statement came during the call with Somalia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdisalam Abdi Ali.
Abdelatty reiterated Cairo's full support for Somalia's national institutions, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also stressed Egypt's commitment to Somalia's security and stability.
The ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and reviewed internal developments in Somalia as well as regional issues in the Horn of Africa. Abdisalam Abdi Ali expressed appreciation for Egypt's political, developmental and security support and affirmed plans to continue coordination on shared issues.
