Eight rescued after landslide hits southwest China's Chongqing

Eight people were rescued after a landslide struck Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County in southwest China's Chongqing on Friday morning.

The landslide occurred at about 9 a.m. Friday, burying an unspecified number of houses along a section of the Wujiang River in the county.

As of 11:38 a.m. on Friday, a total of eight people have been rescued, according to local authorities. All eight rescued people have been taken to hospital for treatment and are in stable condition, with none in life-threatening condition, said a statement released by the county via its official WeChat account.

The landslide happened near the No. 3 bridge project on the Wujiang River. Rescue operations are underway.
