Electrical failure at Gare de l'Est strands hundreds of travelers

Rail traffic from Paris Gare de l'Est was halted Thursday evening due to an electrical failure, stranding hundreds of travelers for several hours amid the heat.

The incident, linked to a catenary problem, began around 18:30. SNCF announced around 20:00 that traffic was diverted to electrified lines and would resume gradually. Later in the evening, it stated the incident was over but delays of up to four hours were expected on TGV InOui services.

Hundreds of passengers waited in sweltering heat, some for nearly three hours. Travelers such as Laurie and Michèle, heading to Metz and Reims, voiced resignation while seeking updates.

On the RER E line, passengers were evacuated on foot through tunnels. SNCF confirmed after 21:40 that power restoration was underway and traffic would resume progressively.
