EthSwitch has processed over 1 million EthioPay-IPS transactions in one day with a total value exceeding 5 billion birr. The company and its partner BPC also received an award for financial inclusion efforts in Africa.

EthSwitch, Ethiopia’s national payment switch, reached the daily transaction milestone through its EthioPay-IPS platform. The system handled account-to-account transfers, QR payments and other services with real-time settlement. Yilebes Addis, chief executive of EthSwitch, said the volume shows the value of interoperable payments for banks, businesses and customers. The company also won The Asian Banker’s Best Financial Inclusion Technology Initiative in Africa for 2026 award alongside BPC. The platform runs on BPC’s SmartVista software and supports wallet transfers, utility payments and government services.
