Seizures of cocaine in South Africa show packaging matches that found in Brazil, pointing to involvement of the Primeiro Comando da Capital gang. South African rands and Nelson Mandela notes were also seized in a Brazilian operation targeting the group.
Cocaine bricks seized in Durban on 5 May and 6 June carried a distinctive “T” packaging also recovered during an April police search in São Vicente, Brazil. Tesla-branded cocaine found at Durban harbour on 9 June matched a Brazilian seizure from the same month, while similar packaging appeared in a Western Cape truck seizure in September 2025.
Hermès-branded cocaine worth R20 million was recovered in Midrand in October 2025. The same packaging has been intercepted repeatedly in Brazil, with some shipments entering via Bolivia.
Brazilian authorities launched Operation Hidden Carbon at the end of May 2026. Officers seized South African rands and passports during raids on a fuel-sector money-laundering scheme linked to the PCC. Alleged PCC leader Gilberto Aparecido dos Santos was previously based in Johannesburg under another name before his arrest in Mozambique.
