Fide launches global chess women’s day celebration for March

The International Chess Federation’s Commission for Women’s Chess is inviting federations, clubs, and organizers worldwide to participate in the Chess Women’s Day Celebration throughout March. This year’s theme, “Visible, Connected, Worldwide,” aims to boost visibility of women-focused chess events and foster global connections. Building on last year’s successful initiative, the effort seeks to inspire more women and girls in chess communities.

March marks a dedicated time to celebrate women through chess, as announced by the FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess. Following a strong inaugural global Chess Women’s Day Celebration last year, the commission is renewing the call for participation in events under the banner of “Visible, Connected, Worldwide.”

The theme emphasizes three goals: increasing the visibility of chess events honoring women and girls, strengthening ties between local communities and international organizers, and showcasing diverse projects across continents. Organizers are encouraged to host a variety of activities, including tournaments, mixed or women-focused events, simultaneous exhibitions, lectures, workshops, or special gatherings.

“Every event counts,” the announcement states, highlighting how collective participation amplifies impact and unites the global chess community. By sharing details of planned events via contact or social media tags, participants contribute to a network of activities promoting diversity and inclusion in chess.

To join, individuals and groups can plan events celebrating women and girls, inform the commission by emailing anna.kantane@gmail.com, and follow updates on Instagram and Facebook. The FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess website provides further resources at https://wom.fide.com/.

This initiative underscores the power of shared efforts, as demonstrated last year, with hopes to expand reach and inspire broader engagement in chess worldwide.
