FIFA unveils groups for 2026 World Cup in Washington draw

The 2026 FIFA World Cup groups were revealed during a ceremony at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on Friday. The tournament, co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, will feature 48 teams across 104 matches in 16 cities over 39 days. The U.S. will open against Paraguay in Group D at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on June 12.

The draw ceremony, hosted by Kevin Hart and Heidi Klum, included performances from Andrea Bocelli, Lauryn Hill, Robbie Williams, Nicole Scherzinger, and the Village People. Donald Trump received the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize, while Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canada Prime Minister Mark Carney participated in the early stages.

The tournament kicks off on June 11 in Mexico City with Mexico facing South Africa in Group A. The final is set for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Fox and Telemundo hold U.S. broadcasting rights.

The U.S. drew a favorable Group D alongside Paraguay, Australia, and the winner of a playoff between Türkiye, Romania, Slovakia, and Kosovo. Their matches include the opener against Paraguay on June 12 in Los Angeles, Australia on June 19 in Seattle, and the group finale on June 25 back in Los Angeles.

  • Group B: Canada, Italy-Northern Ireland/Wales-Bosnia and Herzegovina winner, Qatar, Switzerland.
  • Group C: Brazil, Morocco, Haiti, Scotland.
  • Group E: Germany, Curaçao, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador.
  • Group F: Netherlands, Japan, Ukraine-Sweden/Poland-Albania winner, Tunisia.
  • Group G: Belgium, Egypt, Iran, New Zealand.
  • Group H: Spain, Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay.
  • Group I: France, Senegal, Iraq/Bolivia-Surname winner, Norway.
  • Group J: Argentina, Algeria, Austria, Jordan.
  • Group K: Portugal, New Caledonia-Jamaica/Congo winner, Uzbekistan, Colombia.
  • Group L: England, Croatia, Ghana, Panama.

The top two teams from each group advance, along with select third-place teams. FIFA will announce exact times and venues on Saturday.
