Five people were stabbed at New York City's Penn Station on Sunday evening in what police described as a random attack. The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Hector De Leon, was quickly taken into custody by Amtrak Police.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday. Five victims were injured, with the oldest around 60 years old and one suffering serious wounds. Six people, including the suspect, were taken to the hospital. Amtrak Police said the suspect entered the station shortly before the attack. He is believed to be homeless and emotionally disturbed, with no known terror links and one prior drug arrest in New Jersey. A knife was recovered at the scene. Victim Henry Obadiah, 60, said he was slashed across the face. 'He came at me for no reason,' he told CBS News. Mayor Zohran Mamdani issued a statement expressing support for the victims and praising the swift police response. There were no impacts to Amtrak service.
