Florida couple charged with attacking mother over toddler discipline

A married couple in Davie, Florida, faces charges after allegedly assaulting a mother in a parking lot for how she disciplined her young son. The incident occurred Wednesday evening and left the victim with scratches and torn clothing.

Mary Williams and her husband Terry Williams were arrested following the confrontation in the 5400 block of South University Drive. Police said the couple approached the mother after she smacked her misbehaving toddler once on the mouth and torso. Terry Williams claimed to work for the state Department of Children and Families and warned her against yelling or hitting the child, but the situation escalated when Mary Williams blocked the mother's path to her car.
