Florida man arrested after holding teen in dryer

A 53-year-old Florida man is in custody after deputies say he restrained a teenage girl and forced her into a clothes dryer at his Key Largo home.

Christopher Michael Veit faces charges of kidnapping by false imprisonment, interference with child custody, and unlawful sexual activity with a minor. Monroe County deputies responded Sunday morning after the girl called 911 to report she was being held hostage.

Officers found the girl inside the dryer at Veit's residence. She told police that Veit had restrained her, placed her in the appliance, and taken her phone when she tried to leave. The girl had no life-threatening injuries.

Detectives also discovered several sheets of counterfeit currency and notified the U.S. Secret Service. Veit was arrested at the scene and is being held on $650,000 bond. His next court date is set for Aug. 4.
