Four hospitalized after fire in Helsingborg

A fierce fire broke out in a multi-family house in central Helsingborg on Monday evening, resulting in four people being taken to hospital. The alarm sounded around 19:40, with emergency services dealing with heavy smoke development.

The fire alarm reached emergency services at 19:40 on Monday, November 3, 2025. According to rescuers, the blaze started in an apartment in the multi-family building located centrally in Helsingborg, with heavy smoke development that rapidly spread to the stairwell. Initial reports described flames bursting through the windows.

Ambulance staff assessed that a total of twelve people had been exposed to smoke to varying degrees. Four of these were taken to hospital for further care, while the others could be treated on site. The severity of injuries to the four patients remains unclear at this point.

Police have initiated a preliminary investigation and are treating the incident as arson or gross endangerment through negligence. Rescuers fully extinguished the fire by 20:30 that same evening. No further details on the cause have been released, but the probe continues.

"Ambulansen gjorde bedömningen att totalt tolv personer hade fått i sig rök i olika grad. Det slutade med att fyra av dem fördes till sjukhus," says Mattias Johansson, duty officer at the rescue service.

The event underscores the dangers of fires in multi-family buildings, where smoke can quickly affect many residents. Emergency services always urge having working smoke alarms and evacuation plans.
