Gachagua regrets impeachment's effect on wife's boychild support

Former Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua expressed his main regret after impeachment: the reduced ability of his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, to aid vulnerable boys. Speaking in Nyeri County, he highlighted how her initiatives have suffered since his dismissal. He also lamented the resurgence of illicit brews in Central Kenya.

On Saturday afternoon in Nyeri County, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua addressed the congregation during his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi's ordination as a reverend. Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for the Citizens' Party (DCP), shared that despite finding peace after his impeachment, he harbors one significant regret.

"Our humiliating exit from the office has been very pleasant to us because we have moved on, and we are happier people. The only regret that I have is that we left the office is that Dorcas is not able to help as many boys as she would have wanted," Gachagua said.

During his tenure, Dorcas spearheaded a boychild initiative aimed at rehabilitating and protecting young men facing depression and addictions. Gachagua noted that her influence and capacity to support this cause have diminished since his dismissal, limiting her impact. "She is now not able to do very much as she would have wanted, but we support her as a family, and as we are here, we feel very disappointed," he added.

Gachagua also voiced frustration over the government's failure to address illicit alcohol in Central Kenya, a region where such issues previously drew attention. "We feel very disappointed that the work we have done to get rid of illicit brews and remove the boychild from the trenches failed. The illicit brew is back, and the boys are back to the trenches. We feel very sad," he stated.

In an emotional tribute, Gachagua praised Dorcas as a dedicated servant of God, a beacon of hope, and the pillar holding their family together. "She is a very great believer in family values, and she has put her family first, and we support her in her ministry. I want to thank my children for agreeing that we will always support Dorcas," he said, emphasizing family unity amid the changes.
