George Russell jokes 2024 Belgian GP pain will stay with him

Mercedes driver George Russell has reflected on his disqualification from the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix victory as he prepares to return to Spa-Francorchamps.

Russell was stripped of the win after his car was found underweight, allowing teammate Lewis Hamilton to inherit the result.

The 28-year-old said the memory would stay with him. "The day I'm lying on my deathbed, I'll probably remember that race because of what happened," he told the New Silver Arrows Radio Show.

Russell added that he does not feel the track owes him anything and described the 2024 race as a strong performance despite the outcome. He noted the challenges ahead with energy management at the circuit.

The Belgian Grand Prix is scheduled for 17-19 July. Russell sits second in the drivers' championship with 154 points behind teammate Kimi Antonelli on 179 points, with Hamilton third on 147 points.
