Germany to host UEFA Women's EURO 2029

Germany has been selected to host the 15th edition of the UEFA Women's EURO in 2029. The tournament will feature 16 teams across eight stadiums, building on the success of recent editions. This marks Germany's third time hosting the event.

The UEFA Executive Committee appointed the German Football Association (DFB) as host on 3 December 2025, following bids from Poland, and a joint bid from Denmark and Sweden. The decision comes after Switzerland hosted a record-breaking Women's EURO in 2025, where 657,291 fans attended matches and over 500 million watched on television and streams. England retained their title by beating Spain on penalties in the Basel final.

Eight venues will host the matches: Cologne Stadium in Cologne, BVB Stadion Dortmund in Dortmund, Düsseldorf Arena in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt Arena in Frankfurt, Niedersachsenstadion in Hanover, Leipzig Stadium in Leipzig, Munich Football Arena in Munich, and Wolfsburg Arena in Wolfsburg. Six of these stadiums were used during UEFA EURO 2024, and all can hold larger crowds than the 18,000 at the 2001 Women's EURO final, which Germany won as host.

The tournament is set for summer 2029, with the full schedule for qualification and finals to be confirmed later. It will follow the standard format of 16 teams drawn into four groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the knockout phase. The knockout path to the final is pre-determined.

Germany previously hosted in 2001 and 1989 (as West Germany). The history of finals includes England's 2022 victory over Germany and the Netherlands' 2017 win against Denmark.

FIFA intends to increase the Club World Cup from 32 to 48 teams for its 2029 edition, following the perceived success of the 2025 tournament in the United States. The governing body is also considering making the event biennial and exploring various hosting options, amid opposition from UEFA over fixture congestion. Prize money distribution from the previous edition remains unresolved, with €212 million in solidarity payments still pending.
