Global Amateur Tour has introduced new FEI-aligned Children's Categories for its 2026 Mexico Competition Tour to address rising demand from international youth riders. The categories target riders aged 12 to 14 and offer heights of 1.00m and 1.10m. Applications are now open with limited spots available.
In response to increasing interest from riding families seeking quality overseas opportunities for junior riders, Global Amateur Tour (GAT) has expanded its 2026 Mexico Competition Tour by launching a dedicated Children's Category. This move underscores GAT's commitment to nurturing talent at all levels while upholding standards of performance, safety, and global access.
The new division adheres to FEI Children's category criteria, requiring participants to be between 12 and 14 years old. It provides a structured entry into international competition for experienced young riders who perform consistently on their national circuits. The categories include Children's 1.00m and Children's 1.10m, open to all nationalities. To match skills and protect horse welfare, riders must demonstrate results at least 10cm higher than their nominated jump height on their own horses—a standard consistent across GAT's divisions.
"This is a really exciting step for GAT," said Lucy Olphert, Co-Founder of Global Amateur Tour. "We have seen a growing number of talented young riders coming through our programmes alongside their parents and supporters. The dedicated Children's Category allows us to offer these riders and families a safe, structured introduction to international competition while maintaining the quality and professionalism GAT is known for."
Mexico remains a flagship destination for GAT, with tours running successfully since 2018. The location is prized for its secure, professional events, high-quality borrowed horses, and family-oriented setting, backed by elite coaching and seasoned staff. As the longest-running tour of its type, GAT sets the standard for amateur international showjumping.
The 2026 tour is scheduled from May 28 to June 8, blending training, competition, and support for riders and families. Founded in 2018, GAT offers premium experiences across destinations like Mexico, France, Germany, Portugal, the USA, and Brazil, fostering a global community of amateur equestrians. Expressions of interest for the Children's Category close on February 9, with selection based on experience and results.
