The Hoy No Circula vehicle restriction will take effect this Saturday, December 20, in Mexico City and the State of Mexico, from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM, to reduce air pollution. It will affect vehicles with holograms 1 and 2 as well as odd-ending plates. The measure applies in 16 boroughs and 18 neighboring municipalities.
The Saturday Hoy No Circula program aims to reduce air pollution and improve environmental quality in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico. It will run from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM on December 20, applying in the 16 boroughs of CDMX and 18 municipalities in the State of Mexico, where authorities can issue fines for non-compliance.
Private vehicles with hologram 1 and odd-ending plates (1, 3, 5, 7, or 9) are prohibited from circulating, as are those with hologram 2. This restriction also covers out-of-state vehicles with these features, except for holograms 00 and 0, which can travel daily.
Vehicles allowed to circulate include those with holograms 0 or 00, electric and hybrid models, and private vehicles with special credentials, such as for people with disabilities. Exemptions also apply to authorized public transport, school transport, employee transport, valid hologram funeral vehicles, ambulances, and essential services. Cars with even-colored stickers (even-numbered plates) are unaffected this day. Additionally, vehicles with a valid Tourist Pass or special environmental authority permits are allowed.
The measure covers Edomex municipalities such as Atizapán de Zaragoza, Coacalco de Berriozábal, Cuautitlán, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Chalco, Chicoloapan, Chimalhuacán, Ecatepec, Huixquilucan, Ixtapaluca, La Paz, Naucalpan de Juárez, Nezahualcóyotl, Nicolás Romero, Tecámac, Tlalnepantla de Baz, Tultitlán, and Valle de Chalco.
