Liverpool and France striker Hugo Ekitike suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during a Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, ruling him out for up to nine months and this summer's World Cup. The 23-year-old collapsed in the first half of Liverpool's 2-0 defeat at Anfield. France manager Didier Deschamps confirmed the injury's severity in a statement.
Hugo Ekitike collapsed to the turf in distress during the first half against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield. Players from both teams, including several from PSG's France contingent, gathered around him before he was stretchered off the field. Liverpool manager Arne Slot described the incident after the match to Amazon Prime Video Sport, saying: “Not too good. We could all see it didn’t look good. Let’s wait and see what it will be. In the second half he went home and I haven’t seen him yet. As it seems to be, losing a player is something we have had many times this season but it is especially hard for him because you never want to be injured, especially at this time of the season.”
