Isa announces expansion of Sogamoso substation with more transformers

Isa, through its subsidiary Intercolombia, has put into operation the fourth 500/230 kV transformer at the Sogamoso substation in Betulia, Santander. This project, awarded in the UPME 02 call of 2023, strengthens the reliability of the National Transmission System. The expansion enhances resilience to growing energy demand and optimizes generation capacity from several hydroelectric plants.

Adhering to the schedule set by the Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME), Isa activated the fourth transformer at the Sogamoso substation. This initiative, part of the UPME 02 call of 2023, aims to bolster Colombia's National Transmission System.

The expansion contributes to the country's energy stability by enhancing resilience against rising demand. It also optimizes the utilization of generation capacity from the Sogamoso, Merieléctrica, and Tasajero hydroelectric plants. In this way, it ensures a safer and more efficient service for millions of Colombians.

The project addresses the need to strengthen electrical infrastructure in key areas like Santander. While specific costs are not detailed in the announcement, its execution in line with UPME's plan highlights Isa's commitment to sustainable grid expansion. This operation represents progress in modernizing the national energy sector, aligned with goals for reliability and efficiency.
