LA Knight has described his former WWE character Max Dupri as mental torture and career suicide. The wrestler spoke during an appearance on WWE Now at Fanatics Fest.
LA Knight was called up to the WWE main roster in 2022 as Max Dupri, founder of Maximum Male Models, instead of using his LA Knight persona. The character was reportedly created by Vince McMahon.
Speaking on the show, LA Knight said: "The level of torture mentally that was for those few months in that, here’s this thing I did that brought me to the dance, undeniably, now you want me to just tuck it away over here? That makes sense, sure. Wait you’re gonna pay me how much? Alright I’ll think about it."
He added that the role felt like "career suicide" and "torpedoing me and I’m dead in the water at this point." Knight noted that he returned to performing as LA Knight after Vince McMahon retired from the company in July 2022.
Knight said he sent a screenshot of both names trending on Twitter the day McMahon retired. He requested the switch back two months later, saying "f’ing please yesterday."
