Macron to appoint new army and navy chiefs of staff

President Emmanuel Macron will appoint General Jacques Langlade de Montgros as army chief of staff and Admiral Christophe Cluzel as navy chief of staff in the coming days.

The Armed Forces Ministry announced the appointments on Thursday, proposed by Minister Catherine Vautrin. They will be formalized at the next Council of Ministers.

General Jacques Langlade de Montgros, 57, who has led the Military Intelligence Directorate since April 2022, will replace General Pierre Schill this summer. Admiral Christophe Cluzel, current commander of the Naval Action Force, will succeed Admiral Nicolas Vaujour, in post since 2023.

The changes align with the standard duties of service chiefs of staff, who form, train and equip their respective forces.
