Madrid influencer Nordin imprisoned 111 days over Instagram music

Noureddin, known as Nordin Workout, a Madrid-based fitness influencer, was arrested on January 22, 2025, by the Guardia Civil on jihadism charges. He spent 111 days in prison isolation due to eight Instagram stories featuring platform-suggested religious music. The case was dismissed in July 2025 with no crime found.

Noureddin, a young man from Leganés with over 500,000 YouTube followers and 100,000 on Instagram, led a life focused on fitness and digital marketing. He collaborated with brands like Reebok and ran a sportswear line. His routine shattered on January 22, 2025, when an antiterrorism Guardia Civil team burst into his home at six in the morning, breaking down the door.

Accused of salafist jihadist indoctrination, Nordin appeared before the Audiencia Nacional. The prosecutor cited "three terabytes of jihadist material," which he attributes to his personal content files. On January 24, a judge ordered provisional imprisonment without bail. He endured 111 days in isolation at facilities like Soto del Real, A Lama in Pontevedra, and Valdemoro, under first-degree regime with harsh conditions: cold cells, limited clothing, and restricted yard time.

"On January 22, I was detained... and immediately faced an accusation of alleged salafist jihadist indoctrination," Nordin recounted. The sole surviving evidence after 16 months of investigation was eight Instagram stories featuring nasheed, religious chants available on Spotify and auto-suggested by the app. "Instagram suggests the most viral music... I just clicked the song," he explained. These audios, common in motivational videos, involved no understanding of medieval Arabic nor indoctrination intent, per his account.

In prison, he faced denials of basic requests and a fabricated alias like "Allah's soldier." He was released on May 12, 2025, but with his passport withheld and required to sign in every 15 days. On July 10, the Juzgado Central de Instrucción number two dismissed the case, aided by his lawyer Rubén Vaquero of Stans Abogados. Nordin reports psychological aftermath and fears of recurrence: "What guarantees this won't happen to me again?"
