Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will join Mark Ruffalo in season 2 of HBO's crime drama Task. Ali is set to play Eddie Barnes, a seasoned DEA agent in Philadelphia whose team conflicts with Ruffalo's unit.

Variety reports that Mahershala Ali has been cast in season 2 of Task, the HBO crime drama created by Brad Ingelsby, known for Mare of Easttown. Ali will portray Eddie Barnes, described as a seasoned and well-respected DEA agent in Philadelphia whose team comes into conflict with Tom's unit. Mark Ruffalo returns as FBI agent Tom Brandis, who leads the cast from season 1 and now heads a new task force in the upcoming season. The season 2 logline states: Tom Brandis takes the helm of a new task force, but the deeper the operation runs, the harder it is to tell who's the target. Task debuted last September with a seven-episode first season and was renewed in November, with Ruffalo and Ingelsby set to return. Ali, who won Oscars for best supporting actor in Moonlight and Green Book, has prior HBO credits including season 3 of True Detective alongside Stephen Dorff. His other television roles include House of Cards, Luke Cage, and The 4400. A Rotten Tomatoes post confirmed Ali will star opposite Ruffalo in Task season 2.
