Maíllo warns PP vote useless to prevent Vox government in Andalucía

Antonio Maíllo, Por Andalucía candidate, stated that voting PP is useless to stop Vox from governing Andalucía and imposing 'national priority'. In a Radio Sevilla interview, he backed plans for 100% public healthcare and free vocational training. He called for mobilization ahead of May 17 elections.

Antonio Maíllo, federal coordinator of Izquierda Unida and Por Andalucía candidate for Junta de Andalucía presidency, criticized president Juan Manuel Moreno today in a Radio Sevilla interview on Cadena SER.

Maíllo warned Moreno would pact with Vox if needed to retain power, including 'national priority'. "No hay voto más inútil para que no gobierne Vox que votar al PP", he stressed. He noted four years ago center-left votes gave PP absolute majority fearing Vox, but not this time.

He accused Moreno of fulfilling Vox pacts since 2018: tax cuts for the rich, privatizations, and vulture funds. He called Moreno's current Vox rejection immature.

Key proposals include temporary expropriation of private hospitals lacking public ones, for fair compensation, and hiring 8,000 health workers for a 100% public network. He pledged to end medicine auctions, clarify investigated SAS contracts, and ensure free public FP spots.

Optimistic, Maíllo urged mobilization like in July 2023 elections that kept Pedro Sánchez in power, citing discontent with Moreno's healthcare.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has pledged to deploy the full force of the state against any Extremadura regional laws enacting the PP-Vox pact's 'national priority' clause, which prioritizes Spaniards for social aids over irregular immigrants. The threat follows criticism from Madrid's Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who called the measure illegal.

Juan Manuel Moreno and María Jesús Montero kicked off the Andalusian pre-campaign on Sunday by clashing over healthcare management, with claims of public service dismantling and hoax privatization allegations. Moreno acknowledged room for improvement in waiting lists, while Montero pledged to cut appointment times. The issue dominates the May 17 elections.

Madrid's regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso has criticized the 'national priority' clause in the PP-Vox agreement in Extremadura, which prioritizes Spaniards over migrants in public services. She stated that such requirements are not legal and infringe on established rights. Vox's spokesperson in Madrid replied by demanding the same in future regional talks.

Podemos candidate for the Andalusian government presidency, Juan Antonio Delgado, offered on Sunday an 'extended hand' to Antonio Maíllo of Por Andalucía to negotiate a united left-wing candidacy for the May 17 regional elections. Parties have until April 3 to register coalitions. Delgado emphasizes that 'the Andalusian people want us to go together'.

Ione Belarra, Podemos general secretary, launched the Andalusian pre-campaign in Seville without confirming if her party will run alone or join other left-wing forces. She limits herself to saying they will seek the 'strongest' candidacy to stop Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla. Regional elections will be called in April.

Izquierda Unida and Podemos are rushing negotiations to register a joint coalition before the Friday 23:59 deadline. Thursday's key meeting in Seville yielded no public details after over nine hours. The deal aims to unite forces to the left of the PSOE for the May 17 elections.

On its 97th anniversary, PRI leader Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas called on PAN and Movimiento Ciudadano to form an opposition alliance to counter Morena in the 2027 elections. The appeal aims to unite forces to defend democratic institutions and balance political power. Meanwhile, debate over President Claudia Sheinbaum's electoral reform creates divisions among allied and opposition parties.
