A man in his 70s has died in a diving accident at Ön in Limhamn, Malmö, on New Year's Eve. Police were alerted just after 12 o'clock on Wednesday, and a group that was diving together is under investigation. The cause of the accident is unclear, and relatives have been notified.
On New Year's Eve, December 31, a tragic diving accident occurred at Ön in Limhamn, Malmö. Police were alerted at 12:49 after a man in his 70s fell ill during a dive with a group. Rescue services, police, and ambulance arrived at the scene shortly after 1 p.m.
The man was brought up from the water before the call to 112 was made, according to the rescue services. During the evening, police confirmed that the man had died in connection with the accident. Relatives have been notified of the sad news.
"It is of course very tragic and sad to receive this message on New Year's Eve," says Leif Fransson, police spokesperson.
Police have held interviews with everyone in the diving group. The cause of the accident is unclear and is now being investigated.
"It is a group that was diving and then something went wrong. We don't know what happened but it will of course be investigated," Fransson tells Sydsvenskan.
There is currently no suspicion of crime, but the investigation continues to clarify the circumstances. Police will compile the interviews to gather more information about the incident.
