McLaren secured its third consecutive victory in the 2026 Formula 1 season at the Hungarian Grand Prix after introducing five upgrades to the MCL40. Team principal Andrea Stella attributed the performance gain directly to the new parts and stressed the ongoing importance of development.
Lando Norris won from pole by 15 seconds at the Hungaroring. The upgrades included a modified rear wing endplate, new floor and floor board, revised front and rear corner furniture, and an enlarged brake cooling outlet.
Oscar Piastri retired late with a gearbox fault, preventing a potential McLaren one-two finish. Stella said the lap time improvement came entirely from the upgrades and that more updates remain essential to stay competitive.
Stella described the season as a race of upgrades among top teams. He noted McLaren plans further developments for upcoming races including Zandvoort on 21-23 August and Monza.
The 2026 season finale remains scheduled for Abu Dhabi on 4-6 December, though the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict raises questions about that venue.
