The Michael Jackson biopic Michael has surpassed 900 million dollars in worldwide box office earnings. The film from Lionsgate is now the studio's highest grossing release ever.
The movie reached the milestone in its seventh week of release. Domestic earnings stand at 355.2 million dollars while international totals exceed 544.8 million dollars. Michael is 11 million dollars short of matching the 911 million dollar gross of Bohemian Rhapsody, another film produced by Graham King. It is expected to become the highest grossing musical biopic upon surpassing that figure. The production carried a cost of more than 200 million dollars before global marketing expenses. Japan marks the next major market with a release scheduled for June 12.
