Ministry of Health posts 6360 medical interns for 2026/2027 programme

The Ministry of Health has posted 6360 healthcare interns for the 2026/2027 internship programme. Interns will collect offer letters on 29 June 2026 at Afya House in Nairobi. They are scheduled to begin their 12-month placements on 1 July 2026.

Health CS Aden Duale announced the deployment on 26 June 2026. The cohort includes 875 Medical Officer interns, 69 Dental Officer interns, 615 Pharmacy Officer interns, 2000 Bachelor of Science Nursing Officer interns, 705 Bachelor of Science Clinical Officer interns and 2096 Diploma Clinical Officer interns.

All eligible pre-interns must collect their internship offer letters in person on Monday 29 June 2026 at the Ministry of Health Headquarters Afya House Nairobi from 9am. The programme is intended to equip newly qualified healthcare professionals with practical clinical experience before full licensing.

This deployment follows a 2024 agreement between the government and the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union that set intern salaries at about Ksh206000 per month. The postings are scheduled to strengthen staffing levels in public hospitals across the country.
