Motorsport UK and BRDC unite to develop young British drivers

Motorsport UK and the British Racing Drivers’ Club are merging their driver development programmes into a single national academy. The new BRDC Driver Academy powered by Motorsport UK will launch in 2027.

The combined initiative will integrate the Motorsport UK Driver Academy with the BRDC’s Rising Stars and Superstars programmes. It will be led by former sportscar driver Andy Meyrick.

Meyrick said he is excited about the move. He noted that standing still risks leaving British motorsport outdated compared with rivals.

BRDC vice president Derek Warwick highlighted the added resources and funding. He said the partnership will allow support that was not possible before.

George Russell, a former participant in the BRDC programmes, credited the organisations with guiding his early career. He said their role remains important amid growing competition from Formula 1 team academies.
