Murkomen orders fast track hiring of chiefs in Samburu County

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has ordered interviews for chiefs and sub-chiefs to be completed this week so qualified candidates can start work next week in newly gazetted areas.

Speaking during a church service in Kerio Valley on July 5, Murkomen said he had ordered the County Commissioner to fast-track the recruitment process.

He noted that areas gazetted by the government in 2024, including Samburu West with headquarters at Loosuk, require staff urgently to address insecurity.

Murkomen also warned against civilians possessing guns and threatened politicians supplying weapons to youth, while directing deployment of more KPR officers and the return of the SOG.

The move follows his declaration one day earlier on parts of Marsabit County as security-disturbed for 30 days from June 23.
