The National Investigation Agency filed a chargesheet on Saturday against eight people, including Pakistan-based Shehzad Bhatti, in connection with the January IED blast at Baldev Nagar police station in Ambala, Haryana.
The chargesheet was submitted to the Special NIA Court in Panchkula. It names seven Indian nationals alongside Bhatti: Karamjit Singh alias Tony, Akash, Soureb alias Sobi alias Sourab, Raman Kumar, Satyam, Sukhdev Singh alias Sukha, and Amarjeet Singh alias Ambi.
The accused face charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Explosive Substances Act 1908, and Telecommunication Act 2023. The NIA detailed a conspiracy led by Bhatti to target police establishments and spread terror.
Akash is described as Bhatti’s main operative in India who coordinated the attack. The agency said the group conducted reconnaissance, parked a car loaded with gas cylinders and explosives at the station, and recorded the scene for publicity. Bhatti allegedly recruited and radicalised the men via social media and encrypted apps.
The NIA stated its probe is ongoing and has traced the full chain of recruitment, financing, and execution under Bhatti’s direction.
