Nick Cave praises Geese's new album 'Getting Killed'

Nick Cave has expressed deep admiration for Geese's latest album 'Getting Killed', describing how its opening track brought him genuine joy after a restless morning. The Australian musician shared his thoughts on his website The Red Hand Files, highlighting the song's emotional impact. This praise comes amid the New York band's growing acclaim and upcoming UK tour.

Praise from Nick Cave

On his website The Red Hand Files, Nick Cave responded to a reader's question about songs that evoke genuine joy. He recounted waking up at 5am, restless from swirling thoughts, and heading to a nearby park for an icy-cold swim. After drying off, buying coffee, and walking back with earphones in, Cave played Geese's 'Getting Killed'.

The album's opening song 'Trinidad', sung by frontman Cameron Winter, struck a chord. Cave quoted Winter's plaintive lines: “I try/ I try/ I try so hard.” He then described the explosive chorus: “When the band kicks into the chorus – I mean, my God, those drums – and Cameron Winter screams, again and again – ‘There’s a bomb in my car! There’s a bomb in my car!’ – all worry is laid to waste.” Combined with the endorphins from his swim, caffeine, and the morning surroundings, Cave felt unburdened: “I am made happy, and that happiness is entire and incontestable. And all the way home, I go—to my beautiful waking wife – on this, the best day ever.”

Background on Geese and the Album

Geese, a cult New York band, released 'Getting Killed' to near-universal acclaim. NME awarded it five stars, calling it “another exhilaratingly free-spirited turn from the New York cult heroes” that demands accolades and fanaticism. The band previously featured on NME's cover in 2023 and achieved breakthrough success.

Cave has prior appreciation for Winter, having praised his solo album 'Heavy Metal' as a “startling, wigged-out album” with a “glorious, emotive voice” and lines like “‘Today, I met who I’m gonna be from now on / And he’s a piece of shit’. Amazing.”
