Canadian singer-songwriter Ora Cogan has revealed her new album, Hard Hearted Woman, marking her first release on Sacred Bones Records. The announcement includes the lead single 'Honey,' accompanied by a video exploring themes of isolation and longing. The album follows her recent EP and captures a period of writing in rural British Columbia.
Ora Cogan, a Canadian singer-songwriter, has announced her upcoming album Hard Hearted Woman, which will be her debut on the Sacred Bones Records label. The album comes after the release of her EP Bury Me in April of last year and follows her 2023 full-length Formless. Cogan began composing the songs during the subsequent winter, with some of that time spent in rural British Columbia. The lead single, 'Honey,' offers the first preview from this creative phase.
The video for 'Honey' was directed by Paloma Ruiz-Hernandez. Cogan described its concept: "The idea was to enter into an existence of absurdity where everyone is simultaneously isolated in their own loneliness and drowning in collective longing and lust."
Recording took place with David Parry of Loving in Victoria, British Columbia, at Cogan's studio in Nanaimo, and remotely with producer Tom Deis. The process aimed to reflect the resilience of "anyone trying to stay open, even when the world makes that feel impossible."
Hard Hearted Woman is scheduled for release on March 13 via Sacred Bones Records. Its tracklist includes: 'Honey,' 'The Smoke,' 'Division,' 'Bury Me,' 'Limits,' 'Love You Better,' 'River Rise,' 'Believe in the Devil,' 'Outgrowing,' and 'Too Late.'
To promote the album, Cogan will tour the UK and Ireland, starting March 19 at The Hope & Ruin in Brighton. The itinerary continues with shows in Oxford on March 20, Manchester on March 21, Newcastle on March 22, Edinburgh on March 24, Glasgow on March 25, Galway on March 27, Dublin on March 28, Cork on March 29, Sheffield on April 1, Bristol on April 2, and concludes at Dingwalls in London on April 3.
