Former Indonesia national team coach Patrick Kluivert will return to the country on April 18, 2026, to play in the Clash of Legends at Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. Event promoter Reza Subekti said convincing him was difficult due to fears of public scrutiny. He will feature for Barcelona Legends under tight security.
Patrick Kluivert is set to arrive in Indonesia on Saturday, April 18, 2026, to participate in the Clash of Legends at Jakarta's Stadion Utama Gelora Bung Karno (SUGBK). He will play for Barcelona Legends, not as a coach, having scored 90 goals in 182 appearances for the Spanish club.
Event promoter Reza Subekti revealed the challenges in persuading Kluivert. "It was quite difficult to convince (Patrick Kluivert) to perform again. In the end, we met and I managed to invite him, and he agreed to come here (to Indonesia)," he told reporters.
Kluivert's hesitation stems from potential public spotlight over his failure to qualify the Indonesia national team for the 2026 World Cup. Reza Subekti stated, "In my personal opinion, Indonesia's failure to reach the World Cup is not entirely Patrick's fault." He noted Indonesia's competitive position below Iraq and Saudi Arabia made the results realistic, urging the public to respond maturely to his arrival.
The event will also feature Indonesian football legends such as Firman Utina, Greg Nwokolo, Arthur Irawan, Irfan Bachdim, Ismed Sofyan, and Maman Abdurrahman. Italian referee legend Pierluigi Collina will officiate, despite changes in opponents.
