Peter Gabriel releases debut 'o/i' single 'Been Undone' on full moon

Peter Gabriel has launched the first single from his upcoming album 'o/i', 'Been Undone', today during the full moon on January 3. Building on yesterday's announcement and his 2023 Grammy-winning 'i/o', the progressive rock icon continues an innovative lunar rollout for the 2026 project.

As detailed in yesterday's announcement, Gabriel's 'o/i'—his first original album collection since 2011's 'New Blood'—will unfold over 2026 with one song per full moon and 'Bright-Side'/'Dark-Side' mixes on new moons, culminating by year's end.

The lead single 'Been Undone', recorded at Real World Studios and The Beehive, is now available. It pairs with striking artwork: Brazilian artist Janaina Mello Landini's 'Ciclotrama 156 (Palindrome)', a mirrored rope composition resembling fractals, tree trunks, or the brain. Gabriel noted: "The way she takes the rope and moves it out, unravelling it, is almost like fractals or tree trunks and looks like the brain in some ways too."

The album explores future transitions driven by AI, quantum computing, and brain-computer interfaces, with Gabriel describing it as "my lumpy bits – 'i/o': the inside has a new way out and 'o/i': the outside has a new way in." He stresses interconnectedness: "We are not... the exclusively self-determining, independent beings... We are something else, a part of nature... shaking our booty and giving and receiving some love can help us find our place - and put a big smile on our faces."

The 75-year-old Genesis alum (solo since 1975) boasts hits like 'Solsbury Hill', 'Sledgehammer', and six Grammys. The next single drops on the February 1 full moon. No tour announced yet.
