Petro Gazz dethrones Creamline in PVL quarterfinals

Petro Gazz Angels defeated defending champions Creamline Cool Smashers in the quarterfinals of the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference, securing a semifinal spot. PLDT High Speed Hitters, ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, and Akari Chargers also advanced by beating their respective opponents at the Araneta Coliseum on November 24.

In a stunning upset, the Petro Gazz Angels overcame the Creamline Cool Smashers with a 25-23, 25-19, 16-25, 25-14 victory during the quarterfinals of the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference on November 24 at the Araneta Coliseum in Manila. This result marked Creamline's worst finish ever, excluding them from the podium for the first time in league history. Myla Pablo led the Angels with 26 points, comprising 23 attacks, 2 blocks, and 1 ace, stepping up after American import Lindsey Vander Weide suffered an ankle injury in the first set and was wheeled off following a block attempt that landed on teammate Ranya Musa's foot.

Petro Gazz head coach Gary Van Sickle credited the team's depth for the win: “It was the team depth that helped us because one of our starters went down, and I could tell the girls, you know a lot of girls aren’t given playing time. I told them to keep ready when their number is called, perform, and Myla did that.” A decisive 10-1 run in the fourth set sealed the match, propelling Petro Gazz into the semifinals against Akari.

Meanwhile, PLDT High Speed Hitters continued their strong run toward a third straight title by defeating Cignal HD Super Spikers 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21. Savi Davidson topped scoring with 21 points, supported by Anastasiia Bavykina's 15 and Majoy Baron's 11. They will face ZUS Coffee next, after the Thunderbelles earned their first-ever semifinal berth with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-18 triumph over Capital1 Solar Spikers. Anna DeBeer dominated for ZUS with 24 attack points, plus 8 excellent digs and 7 receptions, fueling a 51-attack output that outpaced Capital1's 35. Oleksandra Bytsenko scored 19 for the Solar Spikers, while Bella Belen added 9 points and 19 receptions in her playoff debut.

Eighth-seeded Akari Chargers pulled off another surprise, stunning top-seeded Farm Fresh Foxies 28-26, 30-28, 25-21. Import Annie Mitchem notched 25 points, with libero Justine Jazareno excelling defensively via 21 excellent digs and 10 receptions. Helene Rousseaux managed 25 points for Farm Fresh in defeat.
