Police seek custody of major accused in jco shooting

Maharashtra Police have requested the Army hand over Major Manan Tiwari for questioning after he allegedly shot dead a junior commissioned officer during firing practice. The incident occurred on May 15 at the Central Ammunition Depot in Pulgaon.

Maharashtra Police have written to authorities at the Army’s Central Ammunition Depot in Pulgaon, Wardha district, seeking custody of Major Manan Tiwari. He is booked under murder charges after allegedly shooting Subedar Major Om Bahadur Khand during a small-arms firing exercise.

The FIR, registered at Pulgaon Police Station on May 15 evening, states that the shooting took place between 8 am and 8:20 am. Lance Naik Beersingh Dhami, who was present at the range, reported that Major Tiwari fired a bullet into Khand’s left eye using an INSAS 5.56 rifle.

Special Inspector General of Police Sandeep Patil confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Defence authorities stated that the Army and police are conducting a joint probe, with the accused already in custody.
