Australian band Pond has shared a new single titled ‘Terrestrials’ and announced five US shows supporting Djo this summer. The track, their first since the 2024 album ‘Stung!’, delves into humanity's dual capacity for love and cruelty. Frontman Nicholas Allbrook described it as exploring the 'weirdest of all the terrestrials, people'.
Pond, the Australian five-piece known as a Perth psych gang, released ‘Terrestrials’ on March 17, 2026. This uplifting track marks their first new material following the 10th studio album ‘Stung!’ from summer 2024, which came after the 2021 record ‘9’ that received a four-star NME review praising its experimental style. Jay Watson, known as Gum, wrote the music, and the band recorded it in Mullumbimby with Julian Abbott at Nowave studio. Allbrook sings lines like: “At the sight of the new moon/ The mongrels go berserk/ Baby wanna be weightless/ But it’s a contract signed at birth,” leading to the chorus: “It’s all good/ She’ll be alright/Pray in the morning.” > “This song is about the weirdest of all the terrestrials, people. Hellbent on flying away from or killing our home soil, with a big appetite for destruction, guns, roses. We can love and connect and nurture and inflict unbearable cruelty.” > “You all know this but, yeah, it’s kind of a great mystery isn’t it? It’s almost more supernatural than extraterrestrials. Which is probably why we wrote this song,” Allbrook added. “There aren’t many of us who can forget for even a second about the unborn tomorrows and dead yesterdays but among them are, apparently, kids and people in love. My cousin Iz helped write this with our chats.” Alongside the single, Pond announced summer US dates supporting Djo, the singer-songwriter and Stranger Things actor Joe Keery: - July 14: Stage AE, Pittsburgh PA - July 17: Forest Hills Stadium, Forest Hills NY - July 21: Thompson’s Point, Portland ME - July 23: Artpark Amphitheatre, Lewiston NY - July 31: Allianz Amphitheatre at the Riverfront, Richmond VA This follows a recent Perth studio session spotted on Instagram by Geese’s Sam Revas, featuring Pond’s Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson, and James Ireland with Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and King Gizzard’s Ambrose Kenny-Smith.
