The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) has drawn mockery on social media after posting AI-generated images to criticize the Morena government, but the visuals contain clear errors in geographic details and signage.
The PRI's social media accounts have become a primary channel to highlight perceived errors in Morena-led governments. Recently, the party used AI-generated images on its X account to compare the country's conditions during its past rule with the present, covering topics like education, infrastructure, and security. PRI national leader Senator Alejandro 'Alito' Moreno has been a prominent critic in these posts and reposts.
A specific instance on January 22 stated: “built the roads of this country and gave them permanent maintenance, guaranteeing family safety. Today, with Morena, the roads are in total abandonment and have become unsafe to travel.” The accompanying image showed on the left a well-paved road with marked lanes, roadside grass, and green nearby vegetation, representing the PRI era. On the right, a deteriorated road with potholes and dry vegetation, allegedly under Morena.
However, flaws became evident: in the PRI image, cars travel against the signage direction. Moreover, both signs direct straight to Cuernavaca, Morelos, and right to Tepotzotlán. This sparked criticism as Tepotzotlán is a municipality in Mexico State, located toward Querétaro, whereas near Cuernavaca is Tepoztlán, not Tepotzotlán. Social media mockery accused the PRI of failing to check the content before posting, backfiring on their anti-Morena campaign.
