Probe under way after Limpopo man allegedly killed by farmer

Limpopo police are investigating the shooting death of 51-year-old Joseph Machipi, allegedly killed by a farmer while hunting on a farm near Giyani.

On Monday, Joseph Machipi, aged 51, was shot while allegedly hunting on a farm in Maphalle outside Giyani, Limpopo, with two companions. His body was discovered on Friday, January 23, 2026, after community members resumed searching. The remains were already decomposed, indicating he had been dead for some time.

Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba confirmed the incident, stating: “On Friday 23rd January 2026, members of the community were searching again when they found the victim had already passed away. His body was already decomposed. The suspects are unknown at this stage, but investigations are ongoing to apprehend all those involved.”

Authorities are probing the circumstances of the shooting, with the farmer believed to be the prime suspect. No arrests have been made yet, and the case remains under active investigation by Limpopo police.
