Egypt's Pyramids FC secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Morocco's RS Berkane in a Group A match of the CAF Champions League on Sunday. The win propelled Pyramids to the top of the group with 10 points, positioning them on the brink of the quarter-finals. They now need just one point from their remaining two matches to advance.
At the Air Defence Stadium, Pyramids FC dominated proceedings against RS Berkane, starting with an early goal in the 11th minute. Mahmoud Abdel-Hafiz, nicknamed “Zalaka,” headed home Nasser Maher’s cross to give the hosts the lead. Berkane pressed for an equalizer but found Pyramids' defense impenetrable throughout the first half.
The Egyptian side maintained control after the break, with Maher adding a second goal in the 74th minute—his first for Pyramids since transferring from Zamalek in January. Ahmed Atef sealed the comprehensive win six minutes later with the third goal, ensuring Pyramids' fourth victory in four group stage matches.
This result leaves Pyramids three points clear at the top of Group A with 10 points, while Berkane sit second on seven. In the group's other fixture, Zambia's Power Dynamos climbed to third place with four points after a 1-0 away win over Nigeria's Rivers United, who remain bottom with one point. Both Rivers United and Power Dynamos had entered their match with just one point each, making it a crucial encounter.
Pyramids, the defending champions, will next travel to face Rivers United on Sunday, where a draw would suffice for quarter-final qualification. The victory underscores Pyramids' strong campaign, as they aim to progress deeper into the tournament.
