Retail investors gain from small-cap stock rallies

Retail investors who raised their holdings in small-cap stocks during the March 2026 quarter saw substantial returns over the following three months. Data shows gains ranging up to 184 percent for several companies in the Nifty Smallcap 500 Index.

Shareholding records indicate that resident individuals increased stakes in nearly 195 stocks between December 2025 and March 2026. More than half of these companies posted strong performance, with around 100 stocks rising between 25 percent and 185 percent from the start of April onward.

Ten stocks advanced between 80 percent and 185 percent in that period. Four of them more than doubled in value. Cemindia Projects led with an increase of 184 percent, moving from Rs 511 to Rs 1,449, while retail ownership edged up to 13.87 percent.

Other notable performers included Apollo Micro Systems, which rose 147 percent, and Lloyds Engineering Works, up 122 percent. Retail shareholding in these firms also ticked higher during the quarter.

The gains were recorded across sectors, with additional advances reported by Aegis Logistics at 121 percent and OLA Electric Mobility at 95 percent. All figures are drawn from ACE Equity data covering the period through early July 2026.
