Road corridor improvements advance in Addis Ababa's Medina

Addis Ababa Roads Authority is carrying out corridor improvement road base strengthening and maintenance works in the Medina area. This effort aims to enable various city roads to provide full service. In the first quarter of the 2018 budget year, 328 km of maintenance work has been undertaken.

Addis Ababa, Tikimt 26, 2018 (Fana) – The Addis Ababa Roads Authority is undertaking corridor improvement road base strengthening and maintenance works in the city.

The authority's public relations head, Iyassu Solomon, told Fana Digital: “Various roads in Medina are being expanded and maintained to provide full service.”

In the first quarter of the 2018 budget year, overall 328 km of unique road maintenance work was planned from over 393 km of road maintenance. On this basis, asphalt road maintenance work over 14 km has been carried out.

Similarly, cobblestone and gravel road expansion and maintenance works are being undertaken, as stated by the head. Noting that one issue is the drainage manholes in road medians, maintenance of drainage covers on over 104 km of roads has been conducted.

He stated that necessary precautions are taken to avoid traffic jams during maintenance, and the work is being carried out on weekends and nights when there is less public movement. Roads that have been in service for over 20 years have been redesigned and renewed in a new form, while corridor improvement road base strengthening is ongoing.

Additionally, for the entire 2018 budget year, 854 packages covering 97 km of road maintenance work have been scheduled.
