Resellers in Japan have cleared out copies of Weekly Shonen Jump issue 33 to obtain a limited One Piece Trading Card Game promo. Bookstores across the country reported sell-outs shortly after the issue went on sale.
The July 13 issue includes a 29th anniversary edition promo card for the One Piece Trading Card Game. Scalpers posted images of car trunks filled with copies and listed them online for as much as $60 each.
An individual copy normally sells for about 300 yen, or roughly $2. The same card can be ordered separately through Bandai Namco’s website, where pre-orders for a collection containing multiple versions opened on July 5.
Issue 33 also contains new chapters of Hunter x Hunter, Sakamoto Days, One Piece, and the final chapter of Blue Box. Secondhand stores are currently offering no more than 1,000 yen per card, limiting any potential profit to around $4 after costs.
