New Persija Jakarta coach Shin Tae-yong has stressed that he will only select players with strong character who are willing to sacrifice for the team ahead of the 2025/2026 season.
Shin Tae-yong outlined his philosophy for selecting the Persija Jakarta squad. He rejects players who are arrogant or unwilling to work hard.
"We need players who are willing to sacrifice for the team. Players who feel ‘who am I’ with stiff shoulders, unwilling to sacrifice for the team, just standing still and not running hard on the field," he said as quoted from the I.League site.
The South Korean coach explained that sacrifice includes a willingness to help in defense even when playing as a striker. He said such actions build team solidarity.
