Shohei Ohtani told the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday that he felt good following a bullpen session earlier in the week. He is now set to throw again on Saturday at Citi Field.
The right-hander and designated hitter threw 30 pitches in Philadelphia on Wednesday while managing a lingering left knee issue. Manager Dave Roberts indicated that another session on Saturday would proceed only if Ohtani continues to feel well.
Roberts emphasized a cautious approach. “We are not going to push him,” he said. “The main thing with Shohei and this pitching thing is just to remain nimble.”
Ohtani is not expected to pitch when the Dodgers return home Tuesday to face the Seattle Mariners. His season record stands at 8-2 with a 1.79 ERA over 85 2/3 innings.
