Skyrim anniversary edition releases on Nintendo Switch 2

Bethesda has launched The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2, available immediately following a trailer reveal on December 9. Owners of the Switch version can upgrade for free, while new buyers pay $60. The port features improved performance and includes all expansions plus exclusive Zelda content.

Bethesda announced the Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition on December 9, 2025, with the game becoming available right away. This marks another platform for the 2011 open-world RPG, which includes the base game, three official expansions—Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire—and hundreds of Creation Club items.

Upgrade and Pricing Details

Existing owners of the Anniversary Edition on the original Nintendo Switch can download the Switch 2 version at no additional cost. Those with the base edition on Switch must purchase the $20 Anniversary Upgrade before accessing the new port. New purchases on Switch 2 are priced at $60, or approximately £52.99.

Performance and Features

The Switch 2 edition offers faster load times, better overall performance, enhanced resolution, and DLSS anti-aliasing compared to the original Switch version. It supports Switch 2-specific features like mouse controls, motion controls, and Amiibo integration. Exclusive content from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild returns, including the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Champion's Tunic.

A gameplay trailer accompanied the announcement, showcasing the familiar world of Skyrim adapted to the new hardware. This release continues Bethesda's tradition of porting Skyrim to various platforms, providing yet another way to experience the game ahead of The Elder Scrolls 6, which remains in development but years away.
