Former NFL wide receiver Steve Smith Jr. compared the Pittsburgh Steelers' revamped wide receiver room to the Green Bay Packers group from the Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers era. Smith made the remarks Friday on his 89 With Steve Smith show. The Steelers added DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., and rookie Germie Bernard this offseason under new coach McCarthy.
Smith likened Metcalf to Davante Adams for his quick release and explosive plays down the middle. He noted that Metcalf averages 14.4 yards per catch compared to Adams' 12.4, and Rodgers targeted him 99 times in 2025.
Pittman Jr. drew comparison to Jordy Nelson as a reliable safety valve who excels on third downs and in tight windows. Pittman posted three straight seasons with 50-plus first downs from 2021 to 2023.
The youngest addition, Germie Bernard, was matched to Randall Cobb for his sudden movements and yards after catch ability. Smith said the group mimics the Packers' successful formula and should benefit Rodgers in his final NFL season.
